Hogsback parkrun

The cottages are located a 2-minute walk away from the start and finish of Hogsback parkrun (a free, timed 5km walk / run) which starts at The Edge every Saturday morning at 08h00 sharp. After parkrun, join volunteers and runners/walkers for a hearty breakfast at The Edge restaurant or have breakfast at the village market in the gardens of the Butterfly Bistro where local farmers, gardeners and artists offer their produce and work for admiration and sale.

Amatola Mountain Hiking Trail

The Amathole Mountain Hiking Trail is a 6-day hike through the Amathole Mountains. The trail consists of shorter loops which can be done in one day or over a few days. The 6-day hike starts at Maden Dam near King Williams Town and ends in Hogsback.

The trail is a treasure chest for nature lovers. Indigenous forests, steeped in history, blanket the mountains without smothering them. Endless waterfalls, cascades and pools in broken mountain terrain leave the hiker wishing there was more time to enjoy them. Arrangements can be made to drop and collect hikers at the start and finish.

Birding in Hogsback

The bird life in Hogsback and surrounding areas is very interesting and varied. The seasons are well represented with the different migrants coming in and the birds leaving the forests for the gardens and vice versa.

The different eco systems result in forest, grassland, montane birds and raptors. Waders and ducks are not really prevalent, which could be due to the cold or the altitude.

Hogsback is truly a birders' paradise, for novice and experienced birders alike. Hogsback boast over a 100 different species of birds.

The Wild Bird Trust Cape Parrot Project is based in Hogsback.
